A Very Popular Restaurant In Yardley Overlooking the Delaware River

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP: “YARDLEY”

Lower Makefield Township's Castle Park, next to the pool and township buildings

Original settlers of the area were William and Jane Yardley, with the land they settled on eventually being called Makefield. The Yardley’s were friends of William Penn. In 1639 a census population of 100 was recorded, with most being farmers. By the 1800’s small villages developed and the Reading Railroad moved into Lower Makefield (1876). Today the township’s 18 square miles include suburban communities, a committed Historic District, and active farms.

Lower Makefield is located in the southeastern portion of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The township is adjacent to the west bank of the Delaware River, immediately upstream from the Borough of Morrisville and across the river from Trenton and Mercer County, New Jersey. Additionally, the Township is bordered by Falls Township and Historic Fallsington on the south, Middletown and Newtown Townships on the west, Upper Makefield Township on the north and the small quaint Borough of Yardley on the east. Lower Makefield is approximately 25 miles to Philadelphia and also is convenient to New York City by railway, approximately a 2 hour trip.

The township has gently rolling hills, flat farmland, and borders the Delaware River. The township is also accessible to the popular “Canal”, a man made canal meandering throughout the state of Pennsylvania and providing a tow path along its entire route. Housing in Lower Makefield includes luxury estate homes, historic as well as new Colonial and Victorian style homes, several condominium communities, contemporary style homes, farm style homes and one level ranch style homes. Lower Makefield also has boasting rights to some of the best recreational facilities throughout the state, with an enormous community pool, several well maintained parks, sporting fields, and a golf course.

Lower Makefield Township Pool boasts of several large pools, baby pools, water slides and more.

Students living in Lower Makefield and Yardley attend the award winning Pennsbury School District and have a variety of private school options within the area.

The Township Building is located at 1100 Edgewood Road, Lower Makefield Pa, 19067. The phone number is: (215) 493-3646.

Real Estate Tips
Radon >Reducing Indoor Air Pollution

Air pollution is a fact of life in the 21st century. Reducing our use of pollutants will improve the environment and the health of those who live on our planet. But what about indoor air pollutants? The air quality inside your home affects you too, especially since most people spend more time indoors than outdoors.

Indoor air pollutants include elemental particles and gases produced by wood smoke and propane gas ranges. Some building materials, home furnishings and cleaning products emit toxic organic chemicals like formaldehyde that can contribute to poor indoor air quality. Outdoor pollutants such as radon gas from the soil under your home, carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide from the vehicles that drive by or pesticides from your neighbor's orchard can also seep inside your house.

How can you reduce the risk of negative health effects from indoor air pollution? First, check the contents of the household products you use, and always open the windows if there are warnings about fumes. You can buy a relatively inexpensive detector for indoor toxic emissions at your local hardware store. If air exchange is poor inside your home, consider installing a mechanical ventilation system that will maintain a healthy flow of air and filter out pollutants.
